Abstract
This thesis aims to answer general questions concerning the computerization of accounting systems and fraud detection in microfinance institutions in Abuja. Furthermore, it analyzes the possible factors and benefits of this subject matter. It also presents how banks computerization has helped eradicate many problems in the banking field, this study therefore lies on how to effectively prevent and manage fraud in microfinance banks with the application of forensic accounting service. The study was carried out to show the importance Nigerian banks confer on computerized banking technology, the extent to which this technology is being employed and how relevant this banking technology is to customers and staff as a whole. The implication of these signs was that the actively engagement of computerized systems of accounting and litigation support reduces fraud in the selected microfinance banks in Abuja FCT, Nigeria. It is concluded that forensic accounting plays a significant role in the prevention of crimes and corruption in the selected micro finance banks in Abuja, FCT, Nigeria. Managements of micro finance banks in Abuja should develop more interest in forensic accounting for monitoring and investigating suspected culprits in fraud cases. The study concludes with observations summarizing the research and the recommendations that emerged. It analyses the level of technological advancement in the banking sector in the country. On the other hand, banks operating with computerized accounting systems offer much improved, efficient and fast services to their customers, thereby making them much more competitive.
